      Lost in the Lesser Alps, north-east of Arles, village Les Baux-de-Provence is considered to be the most beautiful village in France. It is situated at the foot of the castle back, on a small plateau, with a height which offers a stunning view.

      These places are still inhabited by the Celts. They founded a small settlement on the plateau. During the Middle Ages, the settlement gained the form due to an impregnable fortress citadel built by the noble family de Bo. Here at different times held jousting tournaments, performances of famous troubadours and real balls. The family of de fact had a great influence extended far beyond Provence. Not by chance, apparently, they were descended from one of the wise men who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus.

      But nothing lasts forever, and influential family soon stopped the race. For a long time the settlement was without a strong owner, almost becoming a stronghold of Protestantism in France. At the beginning of the XVII century King Louis XIII ordered the destruction of the castle and the ramparts. Despite this, the locals are respectful of its past. Preserved the tradition of Christmas theatrical performance, a play in which the meeting of the Magi to Jesus.

      In the town of Les Baux 22 historical monument. In 1822, not far from this place was found mineral, named in honor of Les Baux bauxite.
